How it all started...
On April 10, 1945, Dr. C.H. Strickland, District Superintendent, responded to a letter from Mrs. C. Spiers, regarding a Church of the Nazarene, in Tallahassee. The first person scheduled to begin Church in Tallahassee became ill and was unable to come.
On August 3, 1945, Rev. and Mrs. Robert H. Spear came to Tallahassee to survey the possibilities for a Nazarene Church. They held several prayer meetings in City Hall and private homes.
On September 7, 1945, Rev. and Mrs. Leroy Fuller, came to Tallahassee and continued the prayer meetings in City Hall, private homes, and later, the Temple Israel Synagogue on Mahan Drive and Hi-Lo Road. Prayer meetings were held throughout the Fall and Spring. A Tent Revival meeting was held June 30 through July 14, 1946, by Reverend C.H. Strickland, District Superintendent, of the Florida District.
At 9:00 PM, on July 14, 1946, Tallahassee First Church of the Nazarene was organized, with 12 charter members. 16 Parsonage families have served the Church. The record is kept in Heaven of the number of persons who have both worshipped, and been transformed by God, in our services since 1946. Out of that date, we currently have over 300 members at TFC.
The original building on 601 Miccosukee and Georgia Avenue, was constructed in 1948, at a cost of $30,000. The church was relocated to present day 8-acre location and this present worship center was constructed in 1983. The friendship center next door was constructed in 1994 and 95. The approximate value of the property, is $4.3 million.
To God be all the glory!
